What we do

At each of our homes we are providing services for two distinctly different groups of residents.  These are people who may still be in specialised hospitals a long way from home as there are no specialised local services for them to move to.

People with Complex medical and Physical needs

Including diminished levels of consciousness, seizure activity, a requirement for artificial feeding, tracheotomy care and airway management. At our small, 8-bed service we offer a comprehensive level of nursing care coupled with support and treatment within a homely environment for people whose injury has left them with complex nursing care needs.

We believe our service will increase the opportunities for further rehabilitative change and be delivered in facilities designed to enhance the domestic environment whilst still being able to provide specialised clinical care to our residents.

Families are an important component in the lives of our residents and consideration is given to providing a space where they can share in the lives of their loved ones in a homely environment whilst ensuring that the clinical needs of our residents are not compromised.

Slow Stream Rehabilitation

Enable Care helps people whose physical, behavioural and cognitive needs require ongoing support and guidance to ensure that they maintain any gains they have previously made in rehabilitation.

We know that people need to be able to practice their newly-acquired and re-learnt skills in a variety of settings to encourage generalisation and allow them to make the most of their lives.

We know that the purpose of a slow stream rehabilitation service is to give people more time and opportunity to achieve their goals, increase their independence and make sure that they do not lose any of the gains they have already made. We aim to make that a reality for all our residents.

We know that most people in our care will already have had a period of acute rehabilitation and they now need time and patience to progress and maintain their skills in a variety of settings.

We support residents with appropriately trained and qualified care and clinical staff. Our aim is to work with the people in our care to maintain and increase their level of skills and community experiences and increase the possibility of re entering the community with a greater level of independence.

We acknowledge that this consolidation period is often where gains are slow and also compromised by cognitive, motivational and behavioural issues. We also know that people in this group may have other competing diagnoses, such as substance abuse or mental health issues which need to be addressed sympathetically adding a greater degree of complexity to the delivery of the service.
